English: So that wraps up my trip to northern Thailand. To wrap up this album, here are a couple of shots which are a bit out of sequence but interesting nonetheless. On our way back from Chiang Rai to Chiang Mai, we got caught in a dubious police check. Chiang Rai was once the hotbed of smuggling of opium and drugs, and the cops apparently( stop any vehicle at random for a spot check. A pick up truck is seen here undergoing checks. But many of these checks seemed to be to extract something from the hapless drivers. When they could find nothing in our car (obviously), the changed their story as to how they were carrying a tourist (me) in a private car without a tourist permit. They finally let us go after a few anxious moments after my good guide offered to buy all the police officers there soft drinks. Oh well, that was one unusual experience!
